Our Coaches
High Performance - Ken Anderson
I started teaching swimming on the banks of the Ottawa river in the early 80's. Swimming competitively on and off throughout high school I swam for Western and McMaster while going to school. As part of my Physical Education degree, a coaching course required me to volunteer with a high school team and the McMaster Varsity team. At the time I was lucky to work under Gaye Stratten while he was coaching 3 time Olympian (and wonderful human being) Joanne Malar and Brian Bond as he was running the most successful 14 and under program in the country.
I was hooked on coaching and after 2 years on my own as a head coach in Kirkland Lake, I finished my degree and have been a full-time head coach since 1991. After stops in Perth and Peterborough, I have been the head coach at KBM since September of 1999.
Through the sport of swimming, I do my best to support athletes as they take responsibility for their own healthy, happy, successful lives. It is always exciting to watch athletes achieve new levels of success, whether it be making a regional qualifying time or competing on the international stage. I now find it fulfilling to talk to former swimmers who have found their niche in life and say "I remember when you told me......."
It is a privilege to make a living as a coach. I appreciate the level of trust swimmers and parents have shown me as I continue to develop as a coach and person.
Senior Performance/Performance 5 - Carla Ingimundson
Moving to Kingston in the 80’s, I was a KBM swimmer in my last year of high school. I attended Carleton University before returning to Kingston to pursue my family’s business. When my children, Paul and Lee, showed an interest and affinity for swimming, I started volunteering as a coach with KBM. Now in my 19th year with KBM, I am NCCP level 2 trained, and have a passion for helping swimmers grow both in and out of the pool. My philosophy is to help all swimmers enjoy the sport, embrace challenges and seek improvement from within. Competition and standards will come and go but self improvement, willingness to work, time management, team support and personal responsibility are life skills that can be learned in the water and carried through life.
Junior - Cory Cronk

I have been involved with KBM for over 25 years. I began first as a parent, then a board member, president, official and now a coach. Each phase brought its share of challenges but there were many, many more positive memories along the way. I followed the same path with coaching. I began with the Mini-Marlin group, then moved to Junior Development and have now landed with the Junior group.
Coaching is fundamentally about teaching techniques that enable each swimmer to swim as fast as they possibly can. At the same time and more importantly, while teaching the skill of setting goals, working towards those goals, and accepting the results. I truly believe that a coach’s job is to instill in the athlete, a commitment to the sport that they have chosen so that their sport becomes a lifelong pursuit, whether it is swimming, soccer, or skiing. See you on deck.
Junior Development- Alison Lappan
I started swimming with KBM at age 7 in the Mini Marlins group and swam until end of Highschool. I continued swimming with the Master’s team at McMaster University and currently maintain swimming through weekly lane swim and sharing the love of the water with my kids. After graduating university, I came back to Kingston and began as a coach with KBM. I started coaching the Minis and Master’s group and now coach Junior Development.
I love coaching swimming because it is the perfect combination of low-impact fitness and invaluable life lessons, such as teamwork, goal setting, and self-improvement. As a JD coach, I get to witness the excitement and growth of my swimmers as they experience their first away meet. I love these meets because swimmers get to step outside their comfort zones, challenge their own limits, and grow as a team through enthusiastic support.
Mini Marlins & Mini Marlin Plus - Alix Martin
I have been part of the KBM since I was 9 years old. I swam with KBM for 13 years until the end of Highschool. I attended Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON, where I swam for the Varsity swim team, and took Kinesiology. After University I came back to Kingston and have been coaching ever since. Swimming has been an integral part of my entire life and I love being able to share that passion with others.
Coaching Mini Marlins is fun because the swimmers learn so much over the course of the season. I love seeing their pride when they learn a new skill or master a flip turn or dive. My goal as a coach is to help swimmers learn to love the sport as much as I do!
